Review with your students before visiting the Yakama Nation Museum
  1. Do you know what year the Yakama Nation Treaty was signed and who was the main signer?
  2. Do you know how many tribes and bands signed the Yakama treaty?
  3. Do we have a flag?
  4. Who the current executive chairman of the Yakama Nation?
  5. Are there two branches of government for the Yakama Nation?
  6. How many elected positions are there?
  7. What is the formal name of this nation?
  8. When do the Yakama elections occur and who can vote?

Activities

Know the names of the first people who signed the treaty of the Yakama lands identify where their tribe or band was located, identify the rivers and mountains - NW MAP PROJECT

Know the mid plateau legends from our people. They teach us many lessons. Share a legend and have the students identified what the lesson was to learn. Identify where that legend comes from; family, book, or was their legend?

Do you know that Yakama Nation Museum has a logo (top right corner)
Have students design their own logo explain the symbols they have chosen and write why they chose that design, color, symbol and a meaning.

Have students write a YAKAMA Nation newspaper article about their visit to the Yakama Nation Museum then submit to the Yakama Nation Review, PO Box 151, Toppenish, WA 98948
